Front Panel Displays
"Printer Maintenance Required"

SYMPTOM

The Phaser 780 front panel prompts the user that necessary preventative maintenance is required with ANY of the following messages:

Printer Maintenance Required - Replace the Accumulator Belt Cleaner
Printer Maintenance Required - Replace the Second Bias Transfer Roller
Printer Maintenance Required Soon - Fuser Life Almost Over
These messages inform the user that the FRU is either approaching or has reached end of life. On-site service is usually required to replace the second bias transfer roller or accumulator belt cleaner FRU.

WHAT TO DO

The service technician should perform the follow steps:

Identify and replace the FRU that is near or at END of LIFE
(even if no print defect is present)

Check the Life value or Copy count of the remaining FRUs. Replace the FRU if it has less than 20% life remaining. This will help reduce return visits to the customer site.

USING THE BUILT-IN DIAGNOSTICS, RETURN THE COPY COUNT TO 0 after FRU replacement. There are three FRU’s in the Phaser 780 that require a manual reset of the FRU copy count when the FRU is replaced; the Second Bias Transfer Roller, Accumulator Belt Cleaner and Fuser. Refer to the Service Quick Reference Guide for further details
Note: Do not forget to return the COPY COUNT TO 0 after the FRU is replaced. The Technician should check the Life value counts of these three FRU’s whenever servicing a Phaser 780 printer with a page count of 50K or more.
