Good morning - we just installed a new print server with Novell 5.1 (upgrade from retired machine that was running 4.x) and I can't get a Textronix Phaser 740 to print. It is a one of a kind printer, all my other printers are HP LaserJets, and they all came up and function properly. The prior server ran the Phaser just fine, but it seems to be dead on this new machine and I can't find a reason why. Has anyone else had issues with or have suggestions on getting this model of printer to work and play well on Netware 5.1?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I need more details. What is the problem?
What is the error message?
Phisically is not working? Users cannot print? Gia Betiu

You will need to reset the Printer back to Factory Defaults and remove all NDS related objects that pertain to this device, such as Printer, Print Server and Print Queue Objects.

Once you have reset the printer and deleted the objects, use the PhaserShare Administrator program to reconfigure it.

Here's how to reset the Phaser740 to Factory Defaults...

Phaser 740 and 750 Printers:

* Turn the printer off.
* Hold down buttons one and four; the Exit button and the far right button.
* Continue holding down these buttons while turning the printer on.
* Release both buttons when the front panel displays Password.
* Simultaneously press buttons one and three; Exit and the second button from the far right. The printer displays Re-setting NVRAM, then Initializing NVRAM. If these messages are not displayed, begin again at Step 1.
* The printer resets the NVRAM to factory defaults and the printer goes to Ready.
* If this does not seem to work correctly, try again. You may have missed the sequence.
* Turn the printer's power off and reinstall the PhaserShare card if you have removed one from your printer.
* Turn the printer's power on.

Good Luck!

Are you setting up Print Serve mode ?

The best bet is to use NDPS novell gateway lpr mode.

If your user needs to use queue printing, you can make the NDPS printer agent to serve the print queue.

We have a lot of problems with Xerox and Tektronix printers not able to connect PS mode, that's why we moved to NDPS. As long as you can ping the printer, you will print to it. Make sure you use correct lpr printer name.

Thank Albert, that was good advice, I am working on setting it up that way now and it seems to have good promise.
