Help! I'm at my wit's (and budget's) end!

About a month ago, my Phaser 740 started creating an unusal vertical streak just right of center on all pages. The streak is unusual in that it varies in color down the page: always a much lighter shade of the "correct" shade. (e.g. If the surrounding area is black, the streak in that area of the page is gray; if red, the streak is pink; if navy blue, the streak is light blue, etc.)

I've cleaned all the rollers, and I've replaced EVERY consumable: toner cartridges, fuser (including fuser roll and cleaning pad), imaging unit (including main charge grid and filter), and transfer kit. No change at all -- except to my wallet :(

I'm left thinking I've got some more fundamental (i.e. internal electronics-related) problem here--maybe a bad SIMM or the like.

Has anyone come across this specific problem before? I would really appreciate some guidance here. I rely heavily on this printer, and the malfunction is most upsetting.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Eric

There maybe a problem with the laser unit. Check to see if there is an obstruction blocking the laser. The laser window is located along the inside top and can be seen if you remove the imaging unit. Removing the top cover will also give you access to the laser which is located under the metal sheild once the top is removed.

Marty5261--You're a genius!!!!!

As you suggested, I pulled the imaging unit and discovered the laser window at the top of the printer housing--never noticed it there before (it's recessed). Anyway, there was no obvious obstruction; nonetheless, I puffed in a little canned air and swabbed the glass with a few drops of isopropanol... AND it worked; I'm no longer a streaker!

Many many thanks for the benefits of your experience! (Maybe someday I can remove a thorn from your paw!)

I'm good to go again.
