Phaser 3500 Error

Need help with this problem.
I don't have manuals for this model.
Printer powers up ok.
When you print to it, paper feeds part way thru and then the printer stops with an error. All four lights on control panel are flashing. The page, which has fed part way thru printer has a black block of toner printed on it. User manual states this error is "system error", "restart printer". It fails every time you print. Any ideas or manuals?

Sounds like the laser scanner unit. If you can get it out and open it up, try spinning the mirror manually. It should spin freely, if not, the you can pull it out, after turning the small black plastic retaining piece to the side. Clean the shaft with 1000 grit sand paper and put a small drop of WD-40. If it works thedn you have a bad laser motor. This is a temporary cure.
