Hi,

Just brought the printer back from my parent's office, only to be confronted with fault: 04,005.44:118683 early on during Initialisation. Tried to Google it for possible answers, but no joy.

Fault shows up immidiately after some movement of the drum, followed by a motor sound accelerating/decelerating quickly. Only other noticable thing that happens, is the rear fan suddenly sounding as if it's got up a few notches in speed.

Have opened it up, cleaned away any dirt, checked connections and watched componants on power-up. Thought the motor sound might be something slipping, but visual doesn't suggest that's happening.

All help appreciated!

Incidentally, are these fault codes concurrent with current Phaser products? If not, I would appreciate Xerox making the explainations of these codes easily available!

According to the book: error 04,005.44 (the rest is your page count)Failure positioning drum maintenance cam during a drum
maintenance cycle: check drum maintenance cam solenoid,
clutch, home sensor, and related hardware.

The DM clutch is a spring wound clutch, the grease that was used as a lube gets hard and will not let the clutch work correctly. Sometimes you can clean and relube the clutch. Make sure you see how it is assembled before taking it apart.
