Hi All.

In xp, if you go to this directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
And then empty it. Then
Right click, properties.

It states it has 34 files, 12 folders totalling 3.08 mb.
I have show hidden files or folders on.
They are still there after I reboot
What are these files, why can't I see them, why can't I delete them?

Regards
Gilesy

There is never going to be a completely empty TIF folder, there are index and other files that are required.

To thoroughly clean the TIF (and other aspects of internet browsing):

. There are several very good third-party tools. MailWasher is mentioned offen;

. You can do this "for free":

This can occur if the Temporary Internet Files folder is damaged, or if a damaged file exists inside. Also if you clear the Temporary Internet Files via Internet Options, but not the Cookies, this will leave shortcuts to Cookies inside the T.I.F.

As "Bcastner" says any third party program that removes your browsing history will usually fix this problem. These also clean all the Index.dat files during a reboot before Windows is fully loaded. Some of these Index.dat files can become quite large.
