Hi. I know with the Definity I could program a MWI (message waiting indicator) button on an empty digital extension.

Is that functionality there for the MLX-5 phone sets and what is the feature to program

Is it accessible via the phone or do I have to do it from the actual terminal. I am still not comfortable navagating around that gui yet...

Thanks,
J

I think you are asking if a line button can be used as mwi for another extension. The Legend/Magix systems do not have a function for this (IP Office does). However, when I read this one way you say on a empty extension so maybe you are using another set to light as a mwi for someone else? Are you wanting to use a spare phone as a mwi for someones mailbox? Sorry for my ignorance. lg

As previously stated, you cant put a MWI on a button of a phone on Legends. If you MUST have some kind of notification, set outcalling ON in the Voice Mail for that mailbox and make it call the user extension that needs message notification when a new message is received.

Thanks, I feel like I am trying to operate the phonesystem with one eye and one hand tied behind my back (and a partial lobotomy) :)

So if the phantom extension is 678 and the phone resides at a desk near that person and is ext 123. I set the outcalling ON for vm 678 and have it call ext 123?

Another stupid question, does this system have bridge-ext?

And another one...

Does anyone have the link to the Merlin PDF admin guide?

Thanks,
J

Let's say 678 is the phantom and it is assigned via an adjunct. You could setup outcalling like it is mentioned for 678 and each time a new message goes into the mbx the indicator would light. However, the outcall number only turns the light on but, will not turn it off, so you would have to turn the light off manually. If you utilize a calling group and overflow it to the vms group number you could assign the mwi extension as the message receiver for the calling group(now working as a phantom) and the vms would turn the light ON and OFF. As always there are interactions. If the set you are using as a mwi has it's own mailbox you wouldn't know which mbx actually turned on the mwi and if either mbx clears their messages out that one indicator will go out eventhough there are messages in the second mbx using the mwi on the set. So as always not really a clean way to accomplish this. If you have sets near them that don't have mbx's you could utilize them. lg

If a visual indication is a MUST have, then using a calling group and the message waiting extension is the way to go, but if you simply need to know there's a message there, and visual isn't an issue,. Use the outcall function. (KISS!)
NOTE: Don't set the mailbox as "Has No Phone" if your going to do the visual, as a mailbox with this status does not send MWI info.

I think I need to have a visual prompt to let the person know to check their phone.... might work out the best that way.

The answer is: you can get all the manuals you need in PDF from support.avaya.com for the LEGEND/MAGIX for free...

Correct Jim, but trying to find the information in 3 types of manuals with several revision is sometimes like trying to find a needle in hay stack and it is nice to know if something CAN be done to narrow the search down.

The Features Reference document, V7 for the Legend and V3 for the Magix,is probably the best place to start, since it has all the feature explanations and feature interactions with other features (all the known ones at the time of printing anyway).

I would use all the current versions first. Then if you don't find something in those, it could be version specific. Then try looking in an older one. Lucent and Avaya seem to eliminate some things from the manuals as a system gets older. (I guess the tech writers got bored).

Also Avaya does not always issue new everything when there is a new revision level.

You are going to laugh. Runing V6.1

Who's laughing ... 6.1 was as far as I am concerned, the most stable Legend version made.
Unless they needed to support 16 Port MLX cards or wanted a Messaging voice mail, I would use a 6.1 on a CKE3/4 processor. I've had more issues with The later CKe5's than I EVER had on all the other versions combined ..
(Especially the internal modems going bad on the CKE5's with V7 on them that came from Avaya)

The one I learned on has 6.0, and is still working well with a Messaging 2000 VMS (Octel100).
