Phantom email address

There is an email address in our organization that we cannot deliver mail to, nor can we find the address anywhere in the active directory even after several thorough searches. I was almost ready to say it didn't exist but if I try to create that address under another user, it tells me it's already being used.

Any ideas or suggestions for finding this guy?
