I have a phantom CD drive appearing in Windows Explorer. It doesn't physically exist. Device Manager and Disk Management don't recognize it. I don't have any virtual drive emulation software either. How can I get rid of it from appearing in Windows Explorer?

can you connect to it?

What kind of server is this? I have seen this on Sun AMD servers that have Virtual CD drives configured to support remote access.

I can connect to it via Windows Explorer. I click on the drive icon in My Computer to open it and the message says there is no disk in the drive.

This is on Windows Server 2003.

can you without fear format this disk?

do it then.
