I have PGP Personal Privacy 6.5.8, which I downloaded from NAI as an upgrade from an earlier version of PGP that came with McAfee Utilities (or system suite). (You may recall that there was a potential security flaw in the earlier version, that might have allowed someone to recover a private key). This is the commercial version, and includes PGPdisk, which creates encrypted partitions on the hard drive. Though I barely used PGP with my late Windows 98 computer, I would like to use it with the new Windows XP Prof'l laptop that I take on business trips.
I was able to install PGP 6.5.8 on my new (Dell) Windows XP (home edition) desktop, and on the (Toshiba) notebook computer, and was able to use PGPdisk to create an encrypted disk partition. BUT the program always bombed when I try to open the encrypted partition.
A cycle of uninstallations and reinstallations hasn't solved the problem. I've tried every possible permutation under XP's Program Compatibility Wizard, but still could not get the program to work. Does anyone have a work-around?
