What are the optimal hardware requirements for 4.6? We are planning on upgrading to 4.8 in another month. What the hardware requirements for 4.8? Other users have suggested at least 266Mhz machine with a minimum of 128Mb of RAM.

We've been having a lot of memory-related problems with 4.6. In addition, BTrieve errors are rampant. We currently run PFW 4.6 on 200 Mhz machines with 32Mb to 64Mb of RAM. Our Platinum Application Servers are 486's, for
the most part. If we stick with 4.6, how do you suggest we upgrade our hardware? If we move to 4.8, how do you suggest we upgrade our hardware?
Thanks for your response.
We are using PFD 4.6, looking to upgrade to PFW 4.x. I asked Platinum for the system configurations for PFW 4.6 and for 4.8a. They sent me sligltly different configurations than MrScott has replied with. I am more concerned now with the workstation configurations since we will be getting a new server with ample RAM. Platinum says for PFW 4.6
Network file server:
Operating Systems:
* Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.51 or 4.0, or Novell NetWare 3.12 or 4.1
Hardware:
* Pentium Processor
* 1 GB or greater hard disk
* Monitor: Monochrome, CGA, EGA, or VGA
* 64 MB RAM minimum
* 32 bit NIC
PFW client workstations:
Operating System:

* Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 Workstation
* Microsoft Windows '95
Hardware:
* Pentium 90 mhz or faster processor
* 24 MB RAM
* 20 MB free hard disk space
* Monitor: VGA
* CDROM drive (one per network)
* 32 bit NIC
What memory-related problems did you experience with PFW 4.6? Did users with minimum specs have to close other applications in order to run PFW or did they experience system crashes / freezing?

Platinum has said for PFW 4.8, the recommended system configuration is as follows:
Network file server
Network Operating Systems:

* Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, or Novell NetWare 3.12, 3.2, 4.x, or 5.x
Hardware:
* Intel Pentium processor 133 Mhz or faster
* 1 GB or greater hard disk
* Monitor: VGA
* 64 MB RAM minimum
* 16 or 32-bit NIC
Client workstations:
Operating System:

* Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 workstation or, Microsoft Windows 95 or 98
Hardware:
* Intel Pentium processor 133 Mhz or faster
* 32 MB RAM
* 50 MB free hard disk space
* Monitor: VGA
* CD-ROM drive (one per network)
* 16 or 32-bit NIC
MrScott mentions clients will need 128 MB RAM; perhaps this applies for Windows 2000?

If you have upgraded or have any other advice, it would be appreciated. Thanks. :cool:
