Hi all

I am running Pervasive SQL 9.10.020 database on a Windows 2003 server. I have 4 clients that pull information from the database using ODBC every 5 seconds using a select query (Clients are a custom VS2005 application) the select query is a simple query just pulling out some figures. Unfortuantly something is crashing the SQL database and I cant figure out what, sometimes it crashes once everyday, sometimes it can go 3 0r 4 days without a crash and sometimes it crashes 3 times a day. I look up the event viewer on my 2003 server and I get the following error.

"Faulting application ntdbsmgr.exe, version 9.10.20.0, faulting module w3mpm100.dll, version 9.10.20.0, fault address 0x00008a47."

I have also looked up the PVSW.LOG file but the only error that is in there is Error initializing the SPX protocol, think that is because SPX is enabled in the SQL database but we dont actually use the SPX protocol.

I just cant figure this out and its starting to annoy me, any help is appreciated.

Cheers

I haven't seen that before but I would suggest updating to PSQL 9.7 (SP3) and then see of the crash goes away. After that, I would get a user dump after the crash and open a support ticket with Pervasive.
A quick search shows that this type of crash (in W3MPM100.DLL) was seen on systems with the v8 client talking to the v9 server. I would suggest updating the clients to v9.7 as well as the server.

Thanks for the reply Mirtheil.

I tried installing the hotfix PSQL v9.71 onto our system and it killed the server, the Pervasive.SQL (Transactional) and the Pervasive.SQL (Relational) just refused to start. I had to restore my server back before the update. I thought at first I had to install PSQL v9.50 but it was already patched to that version. I have tried to install the hotfix PSQL v9.71 3 times now and each time it has stopped the Pervasive services from working. As for the user dumps, the clients dont crash its the server that crashes with the "Faulting application ntdbsmgr.exe, version 9.10.20.0, faulting module w3mpm100.dll, version 9.10.20.0, fault address 0x00008a47." error.

What errors are reported when you install 9.71 and the services don't start?

I understand that the clients aren't crashing. You'd need to get the user dump of the server.
Rarely, a mismatched version of the client has caused a crash at the server.

Hi Mirtheil

Sorry for the late reply. Both the clients and the server are sitting on version 9.50.077.002. To be honest I never checked if there was any errors after upgrading to 9.71, I was in too much of a rush to get the server back up and running, I will schedule some downtime again and try reinstalling the 9.71 service Pack and take a note of any erros.
I did notice that the Pervasive.SQL (Transactional) service was stuck in the Starting Stage and that the Pervasive.SQL (Relational) service was stuck in the stopping stage.

Cheers
