Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a reason why Macola 7.6.100a
will not work with Pervasive SQL 8.0?
And if so is there a fix?

Thanks,
Terry

Macola does not support Pervasive v8.0 and I do not believe there is a plan to do so. They are abandoning Pervasive SQL in favor of MS SQL Server. I believe Pervasive SQL 2000 aka v7 will be the last version supported.

I do not believe that there should be any technical reason why the core product should not work. However, I would strongly suggest against moving to Pervasive 8.0 due to the fact that there is no plan to support this product. If you were to have any trouble I would suspect that it would be with Integrated Crystal Reports and other third party tools that plugin to the database. I would imagine the core product should work well.

Again, this is not tested, not supported, and not recommended. If you have any problem with Macola, regardless of the issue, all support requests will be denied.

I would focus on moving to the MS SQL2000 version of Macola instead of spending the funds on PSQL 8. This appears to be a dead end street. The conversion to MSSQL is not very difficult, except if you have modified code or a substantial number of VB, Access or other bolt on applications. Even though Exact support Pervasive V8 on another product (Max, even gives a 15% discount)the prospect for support on 7.6.200 does not look promising. If you do upgrade to SQL System manager, you are (at this point) entitle to Macola ES code at no charge.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
It is very much appreciated.

I think we are going to focus on moving to MS SQL 2000,
but we do have some legacy applications to take into consideration.

Terry,

What legacy apps do you have to deal with?

Many of these are made may too complicated in terms of converting to MS SQL if you do not know how to handle the conversion.

Please let me know what you are dealing with.

Btrieve is almost always backward compatible. So, as long as your btrieve apps didn't use "undocumented" features of the software & you didn't customize heavily, the chances of version 8 working are pretty good for most of your btrieve apps.

That said, macola hasn't tested 7.6.200 on v8 pvsw nor will they. If you have trouble, you are totally on your own. Pvsw will not support your apps, only the db manager.

If you want to transfer your legacy apps to mssql, you might find that they are not available in mssql or that no conversion utilities exist to move the data from btrieve to mssql. Then you are looking at doing your own data conversion, rekeying, etc.

Don't forget about knowledge sync that allows you to move info, update files, etc from one odbc db to another: it doesn't care if one is btrieve and another is mssql. It's reasonably priced, but would require some programming knowledge or expertise, or a deep familiarity with the dbs you are using.

If you move to mssql, be prepared for a hardware & training investment. A DBA is a must in an organization running multiple sql dbs that share information or require extensive reporting beyond the generic app.
