Hi,
We use the program maximzer which has the ability to put a folder password on the database. This basically changes the owner id of the pervasive files, this is ok if you know the password, if you forget it you are stuffed. I was hoping someone might know some way of obtaining the owner id from these files, or at least if it is possible.
We have not lost the password but occasionally get client that do and loose all their data
Have tried many sources no results so far, anyone any thoughts?

As far as I know, there is now way to get the owner name of a Pervasive data file. You might talk to Maximizer though, they may have found a way to at least get the data out.

Mirtheil is right -- there is no way to get the owner name from a file because if there was then, hey, there would be no reason for the owner name in the first place:) I work for Pervasive, and we sometimes get requests for this. But its the security on the file to prevent other unauthorized Btrieve applications from accessing the file. If this happens very often, then you may want to periodically backup the file to another file by using BUTIL -copy and put the data into a file that you know the owner name of and save that file in a restricted location. Then at least you won't lose all the data.

Debie,
The problem was that in 6.15 the password was viewable from the log file when specific traces wree turned on. In 7.51 this is not the case. The people at Maximizer decided to change the owner Id on one of their database files with out telling the Maximizer program that they had. Needed to get Owner ID so I could change it. Got around it by moving the Maximizer program back to a 6.15 engine. Would be useful to be able to do this in 7.51.
