Hi together!

We produce a warehouse management system using pervasive V8 based on win XP in client-server environment and our delivery-notes are generated through direct call of the crystal print engine within the application.

The report is complex and we use two different versions side by side. The usage depends on the customers plant.

Now the phenomenon:

In every case one of the report is called the first time it seems that all records are cached by the database or XP. Maybe the print engine is waiting for an answer ?
Only after complete caching of the data the printout appears.
In the case that many positions are endcontroled and the concerning orders are relating to different plants, our application has to switch between the reports, reload the previous report and load the other one.

If we do not switch between the versions the phenomenon does not occur anymore.

Anyone knows ?

Hi,

Does this happen for both versions of the report or just one?

Is this report printed out on a dot matrix or a line printer or a laser printer? Is this problem the same no matter what printer you use?

When you refer to end controlled - do you mean that you have carriage return or line feed characters/control sequence embedded within the report?

I have seen it sometimes where a laser printer won't print a report unless there's an end of file control character or another report is printed afterwards.

If you save the reports to file instead of printing them is there any differences between the reports in respect to control characters when you switch instead of not switching?

Best of luck,
Tom

Hi Tom!

We are using a laser printer for this document. It makes no sense for our customer to use another printer because their vendors use this print-out as a real delivery-note and the quality produced by a dot-matrix would be not acceptable.

Relating to endcontroll:

This does not mean an internal report-process. It is more an operation in the warehouse itself. The people collect the goods for an order, plug them into a special packing-material, weigh it and after all the report is printed.

Saving to a file we will test. Thanks!

I was wondering if you ever got to the bottom of that problem.
