On the same machine...

I have a machine which needs to run Pervasive SP4 for a CRM application, it also needs to run Btrieve 5.10 for the accounts solution.

Is this at all likely to work?

I suspect it will if I install the 5.10 files into the install directory of the accounts package and install Pvsw as normal.

Any comments?

Will Pvsw run the old 5.10 databases will it understand the calls from the program? do I need the old version still?

The config for the 5.10 DBengine is /P:4096 /M:64 /F:80 /L:40 /N:18 how do theses parameters relate to Pvsw SP4, I assume there setting up buffer lengths etc? but which ones? If it going to run on Pvsw I'll need to set these so they will work for either App..

Regards

The new PVSW should work correctly with the old 5.10 databases. If you install the 5.10 to one directory and the SP4 to another, you will at best be able to run only one of the apps at a time. You will not be able to run both at the same time if they are using different engines. This applies even if you are using different data files. My suggestion would be to try the 5.10 application with the SP4. I've seen some problems with older DOS apps where the KeyNumber is being set incorrectly that 5.10 let through but SP4 will return an error.
In terms of the parameters, the /F is number of open files (default with SP4 is 10,000), /L is number of locks (dynamic in SP4), /P is page size (not required as an engine setting since 6.10), /M is cache allocation in K (default in SP4 is 40% available RAM). I can't remember what /N is used for in 5.10 but you probably won't need to change anything because of it. mirtheil@mirtheil.com
