Personal Line to VoiceMail Legend R6.1 with Amanda

New to Avaya (limited pbx configuration experience.

Using Legend R6.1 with Amanda.

Personal lines (Centrex) not going to voicemail when that line is busy. How do I correct this?
 
Not good news, I'm afraid. If the centrex line is busy, there is generally no path for the caller to get to the PBX and to voicemail. The call will follow whatever programming is on the centrex line - either call forward busy to another line or the caller will get a busy signal. There are ways around this - neither pretty. Your user could have TWO private centrex lines in hunt. When centrex line A is busy, calls would "roll" to centrex line B and still have a path to the PBX and to voicemail. In theory, the Amanda could be integrated directly to the centrex via SMDI signalling - this is a fairly long shot, however. Another simple solution is to have the Call Forward Busy to the company main number enabled. Reception can then answer call and manually transfer to correct voicemail box.

This is one of the reasons that folks like DID service - this particular trouble generally goes away in a DID environment. Good luck!

Bummer. I already thought about the call forward options you outlined. Was hoping for a Legend solution. Agree with you on DID solution as well.

However, this is small office (4 people). I looked into converting from Centrex, it wasn't cost effective from telco or reconfiguration of Legend.

Consider converting to a pure Centrex environment - four users and four centrex lines. Use telco based voicemail. Take the Legend out of service and use plain old 2500-type sets.

Now you've done it, didn't want to get long winded in original post.

My personal philosophy is that key systems are wasted on small offices (dare I say less than 10 people). However the system was in place when I arrived; I am a peon with no say (was telcom project manager in former life before the "fall"); the business is not telcom or IT related and the owner is not technically adept at telcom matters.
I had a hard time convincing him that call forward busy was an option. He thought he would not be able to retrieve his voicemail by dialing his direct line??????

 
If you have the capacity on the Legend, how about 4-two line hunt groups. Have the 2 lines for each person "owned" by their extension, so they can receive 2 calls at a time, or they can be on one line, and ingore another incoming call, allowing it to go to voice mail. You still have a problem with the third caller getting a busy signal.

Or set up a small two or three line hunt group. Don't put the lines on any of the phones, but have them be answered by one of the automated attendants. Use selector codes to transfer directly to mailboxes. Each private line has call forward on busy to the pilot number of this hunt group. 1st call rings at the extension, 2nd call gets "for Fred, press 1; for George, press 2; etc." and the call goes into the mailbox instead of ringing on the busy extension.
