We have a CS1000e system version 4.5 We are current with our deplist as of 10/15/07.

Last Thursday 10/25 afternoon we noticed on all our I2004 phones sets (D9F firmware) that when you press the directory button (bottom row of phone), you only get corporate directory. The personal directory and callers list are missing.

Our M3904 digital sets still have the personal directory and callers list (I think this info is stored on the phone perhaps, rather than the i2004s storing it on the sig server).

What changed? We powered down our OTM server Thursday 10/25 afternoon for maintenance (moved it into a new rack). OTM was shut down until Friday morning 10/26

Our follower sig server is the one that hosts the personal directory server. Using element manager I confirmed that the follower sig server IP (ELAN) is still present. Our sig server is RELEASE 4.50 ISSUE 88

Restarting a couple phone sets did not bring back the directories, I have not yet rebooted the sig server as it will take down 1/2 our IP sets (we have them load balanced). I just find it odd the timing of taking OTM down and the directories missing. Maybe it's coincidental. Any ideas?

Thank you

OBSERVATION BUT PROBABLY NOT RELATED TO YOUR PROBLEM.
You are using OLD firmware for the IP Phone 2004. Did you know that Element Manager has a mechanism to download a "currency file" from Nortel with the latest supported firmware?
- Log into Element Manager
- From the navigator on the left, select IP Telephony > Software > Telephony Firmware
- click on Refresh Currency File
- In the Refresh Currency Information window, click on Download Currency File and save the file to the desired location on the PC
- In the Refresh Currency Information window, click Browse and locate the file which you just downloaded, and click Upload
- this will return you to the IP Telephony Firmware Upgrade window and you will see the updated Latest Firmware Version
- click on the radio button for the phone model and Download to download the latest firmware

The personal directory and callers list exist on teh primary signaling server. If this is down, they will disappear. They do nto exist on the follower. Make sure your leader is on.

also, by dropping one of your sig servers, the sets will re-register with the other one. you won't loose them. wouldn't be very redundant if you did, would it? the re registering takes barely a couple of seconds. i've tested it on a system with 206 ip phones and re-registration was complete in under 15 seconds.

I know the sets will re-register it's just that we have to do a maintenance window b/c it drops the phone connection when it re-registers, then we have to load balance after that.

Rebooting the follower sig server brought everything back online last night. The callers list and personal directories have returned.

I'm still curious about why shutting down the OTM server seems to strongly be related to the disappearance of the directories - when we shut down the OTM server Thursday afternoon is when people noticed the list and directory were gone. I thought there were no dependencies on OTM from the phone system perspective?

an active call will NOT drop. as soon as the call completes, the set will re register autoatically. if you watch the display it will flash to quickly for you to see anything and then come to life.

if a leader sig server dies, an election will be called within 60 seconds for another element to assume the node master. any sets idle will re-register immediately thereafter. any set attempting to go off-hook will immediately notice the missing sig server and re-register immediately.

load balancing is automatic and will not disrupt active calls.
