Persistent Sessions Database creation WAS 3.5.5

I'm kind of new using Websphere Application Server.
I want to use persistent sessions in Websphere 3.5.5 that runs under Windows 2000.
We have a SQL2000 database.

I know how to tell to WAS that he has to use Persistent sessions.
Now i have 2 Questions:

Do i have to create the Session Database my self? or can websphere do this?
If i have to do it myself does anyone know where i can find documentation of how the structure of this database must look like? (cause i can't find anything about it in the redbook for our WAS)

Can i use SQL2000 as session Database?
