This is a longshot as it's a problem with an HP scanner rather than a printer, but perhaps someone may have come across a solution.

I came across a computer (Gateway P2, Win98, 128MB RAM) that has an HP ScanJet 4100c scanner attached. The scanner appears to work well, without any problems noted.

However, whenever the OS is booted, a message appears stating that "HP scanning software will be removed". I can't find anything related to this problem on the HP website, and have removed the single HP startup app listed in MSCONFIG.

The client was given the computer recently and doesn't have the ScanJet installation CD. I could download the installation software from HP, uninstall and reinstall it, but it's an old computer and I'm trying to save her some bucks, so if there's an easier/quicker way to get rid of this message, it would be nice.

Thanks,

S

Have you checked the autoexec.bat and config.sys files???
Have a nice day!!!

Bisawest,

Good try, but there was nothing in either autoexec or config.sys

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner software using the original HP CD, but the message continues to be displayed when the OS is booted. Clicking either the OK (to continue the uninstallation) or Cancel buttons, has no apparent effect. The scanner and HP software appears to operate without any problems, so this message is really just a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get rid of it.

I've emailed HP about it, but received no reply; probably because it's a 3-4 yr old scanner & software and they don't want to be bothered. Also, a HP website search on the message only has vague references which don't apply to the message appearing on boot.

I'm open to other ideas.

Thanks anyway
