We have found that we need to use persistant binding within our SAN to connect to our tape library to solve issues with systems changing the scsi path on tape drives. However, it does not appear that HP supports persistant binding. We are even willing to consider different server architecture or HBA cards if we can find any that will work.

Here's the stats:

Servers currently running: K360 and rp7400
Current HBA cards being used: HP5158 and HP6685
Tape Library: StorageTek L700
Tape Drives: IBMULTRIUM LTO
San: EMC
Switches: Hitachi DB24M

Any suggestions?

Greetings,

I did a quick search on HP's site and found this:

I'm sure further searching on similar grounds will turn up more useful information.

I know of at least one incidence of a SAN "losing" disks due to dynamic addressing - this was fixed through assigning static addresses to the various devices.

Kindest regards,

James
