EAch time I start my system Excel start but it is only starting with the Personal.xls file. I have to start a second session of Excel to perform any functions. Additionly when I start the second session a messages is displayed indicating that the personal.xls file is in read only mode. Why is this happeningn and how can I correct it?

fneilyp has already given you the solution, but, just as an FYI, you wouldn't need to start a new Excel session. Just open a new workbook within the same session.
