I've got STS 2.0 up and running, and have just barely gotten a few docs uploaded to play around with. Ultimately, here's what I want to get to:[ul][li]Our group of about 10 people should have access to the entire site (discussions, surveys, all docs, etc.)[/li][li]External people (about 110 people) should only have access to a certain set of "exposed" documents, but none of the other stuff on the site.[/li][/ul]

What would be the right SharePoint way to do that? Can I do that with the permissions available, or is that better done as a sub-site? I'm concerned about trying to manage permissions for 110 people!

You do know that STS is a very old product 2001, i suggest you use WSS 2003, for windows 2003 server

Oops. I had STS stuck in my head from a post I read elsewhere. It is SharePoint Services that I installed on Win2003.

Same question though...

Hi,

You can set specific rights on document libraries and lists. However you can't hide for example a document library or list out-of-the-box.

I would suggest that you create a new site-group and only assign permissions for that site group to the library or list that you want them to access. Doing that also means that when you give them the webaddress to the site it has to be to the specific library or list, for example

You can ofcourse also create a sub-site with unique permissions and only add the external users to that site.

Regards,
Thomas
