Hey there,

I've got two mac, and on one of them I changed the username to be the same as the user as she was using the old guys name. By doing that I've messed up the default sharing that was had between the computers, now when one user creates something the other has to add herself to the file as being allowed to use it.

I'm sure this won't be a suprise.. but I know very little about mac...

How can I set a permission on a shared folder and just have everything in it inherit the permission instead of having to do each file/folder manually.

Thanks!

shmoes, assuming you have admin permissions yourself, this is really easy.

First, Get Info (Cmd-I) on the shared folder and click on the lock at the bottom right of the window. You'll need to be able to supply the admin password to be able to do this.

Once you've given that password, you can adjust the permissions. Change them to whatever you want for everything in the folder. Then, look down at the bottom left of the same window and you'll see a little gear icon next to the plus and minus icons. Click on that and you'll get a pop-up that allows you to “apply to enclosed items”. That's it; everything in that folder will inherit the permissions you put on the folder itself.

Hope this helps.
