I have 2 NT 4 servers. One is a PDC one is a BDC. If you look in the server manager the icon BDC is greyed out.
What the problem is is this:
I have a batch file that copys some data from a folder on the BDC to a shared folder on the PDC. If you run the batch file manually everything works. If you then use WINAT to shedule the process (BTW the schedule service is set to use the system account) then you get the error message "Permission Dennied". What I have now tried is to provide a specific user in the schedule service. BUT when I try it says the user does not exist????? Even if I provide the administrator account and password. If I shut the schedule service down put the administrator account and password in and then try restart the service. The service refuses to restart.
PLEASE HELP as I am running out of hair!!
Thanks in advance.

How is your username specified for the service?

IS it just username or servername\username

I used the browse button that is there. This brings up a user manager type box and allows me to choose the user.
When you return back to the scheduler service then you get the message about the user not exisitng!

HTH

THanks for your response. I really need to sort this one ASAP. As it is used for a backup purpose.

I think its not working because the system account only has access to local server resources, your right in that you need to specify an account from your domain (with permissions to access the required resource!!)...

Try entering the account name as domain-name\user-name...

Hope this helps.......

THANKS
I will go and try now and report back.
BTW whats the significance of the BDC icon in server manager being greyed out?? Any or nothing?

Apologies for the mistake in my post, as Highland said it should be domainname\username and not servername\username as I said.

ENSORG and HIGHLAND
THankyou ever so much it worked. If you use the browse button then it reports an unknown user??? BUT if you type it in maunally, then it works. I have now just set off the scheduled job and it worked a treat.
So thanks very much to you both. :)

Sounds like for some reason your Master Browser isn't recognising the BDC as a domain member...??? Have you changed anything on the BDC recently....??? It may be that you need to recreate the domain account for the BDC...??? Are you able to ping the BDC at the moment...??? First thing to check would be the event logs on the BDC and PDC... they may indicate where the problem lies...secondly, try going into server manager, highlight the PDC icon and goto the option on the file menu - synchronise entire domain...you'll need to wait anything up to 45 minutes to ensure all domain members synchronise....if this doesn't work then you'll need to think about re-creating the account...

Let us know how you get on......!!!!

I once had a simliar problem trying to schedule something on Doamin controllers. What i did to fix it was create a domain user and give this user the "Log on as Batch Job" user right. Created the scheduled task and used this user to run it as.

Than it worked
