Trying to do a ufsdump. The requesting machine is listed in the .rhosts file of the tape host. Both machines are listed mutually in the /etc/hosts file. The requesting machine can telnet and ftp to the tape host machine, but we get a permission denied, cannot connect to tape host error. The above configuration works perfectly well on other machines. Other than the hosts, hosts.allow, host.deny, and .rhosts files, is there any other place which might be restricting access to the tape device? We would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Hi,
Are you able to access the tape host from any other machine on the network. If you are using any files in the backup script , check permissions of all the files involved.
Even if any one file doesn't have proper permission, your script will come out with permission denied message.
