We have an application that is composed of a VB based front end and an APL based backend. The APL code is object oriented and exports a series of public methods and properties with COM bindings.
Right now, all of the properties and method arguments are exported as Variants. However, a recent change in the APL compiler allows us to correctly cast many of these items (i.e., as either Booleans or Integers) although some will have to remain Variants.
My question is, would changing from Variants to one of the built-in datatypes result in better performance when using DCOM?
TIA,
Josh
