performance difference between sql server 2008 R2 and sql server 2008

i need to know is there any performance difference between sql server 2008 R2 and sql server 2008 express R2?
i have a customer that use sql server 2008 express R2 edition, there is a problem, it doesnt work after 18:00 oclock, CPU is almost full. but when i look at the programs which is opened i couldnt see any program that use CPU very much.

i want to add that my database is 1.7 GB for now.

can anyone help me please?

i see sql server 2008 express has limit about CPU and RAM ,can the problem be because of limitation?
no there is nothing running after 18:00 ,i also stopped antivirus.
