Performance Decrease after Windows Updates

I have a strange computer problem. It seems to be very slow in terms of disc access and connecting to the internet. If I restore the system back to November 30, it is lightning fast and works like it used to. The only problem is that then it constantly reminds me of Windows updates that are concerned with security issues that need to be installed . As soon as I install the security updates, it slows back down. I have done this three times and in each case it works well with the old settings, but then slows down after the security updates. Is this a documented issue or am I just a unique case?

Run an updated virus scan.

Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-up
Run Defrag.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.

There are a lot of variables in your question. It depends on which security patches you're installing. It depends on what kind of environment you've set up on your PC. It may not be the patches themselves, but the patches when combined with something else you've installed (say Norton SystemWorks for instance) Additionally, there may be other things that you're rolling back when you do that system restore. Are you sure it's ONLY the security patches that you're rolling back to Nov 30th? Spyware tends to have the same effect you're describing (slowness). Have you run spybot s&d or adware or anything on it? Have you done a registry clean & defrag. Have you sifted through add/remove programs to see if something slipped in there. Have you run a full virusscan? Just trying to cover those general maintenance issues that sometimes get overlooked.

Also, some updates may enable additional processes to run. If you're part of a network, I know for a fact on my system that 3 additional processes were started after updating my "XP Pro SP1" system with all the critical updates. You can view which ones are currently running by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ESC.

You can also select which ones are not necessary and stop them for good by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Just be careful not to disable any services that you don't recognize or know a lot about. Instead, do a google search on each one you're not 100% sure about.
