Perception of Movement

Hi there,

I drew some spinning plates using simple circle shapes and gradients in the middle to give shadow. What tool or effect do you suggest that would make them look more like they are moving even though its a static image? I've tried twist, symbol spinner, spiral tool, etc...but nothing looks right. I feel there is a simple way but can't seem to find the answer.

And help would be great.
