Pentool and path

Hi
Im new to Illustrator, and cant get the pentool to act like i want.
Im making 2 path, but every time i cross the first path it cuts it
Whats wrong?

Have a look at the tools panel on the left.

There are two Squares at the bottom of the panel. One has White in it and one has Black in it.

These are the colours that you're currently using. The one with the White in it is the FILL colour and the one with the Black in it is the STROKE colour.

You need to press White square to activate it, then press the button underneath that that has a red diagnol line in it, this means "don't use any colour".

What you're doing is drawing a shape with a FILL colour of white over the path you've drawn.
