Peer Server Issue with File associations

New W7P x64 machine replacing XP Pro SP3 32bit machine as PEER server in small Network (12 PC's) mixture of XP and Windows 7 machines

All machines running Office 2K3 Pro

Issue:

All machines have MDB, XLS, and DOC files on the PEER Server some with Shortcuts ... Windows 7 machines automatically load the appropriate Office App ... XP machines no longer load the Office App. I have to open the Office App then load the office file.

I have tried:
- creating new shortcuts
- lauching the apps directly off the mapped peer drive
- redoing the app association

nothing appears to work ... No error message is received when attempting to lauch a office file ... the system doesn't even load the Office App

Any help would be appreciated
