Hi ppl
I am totally frustrated with this problem i have
I have a peer-peer connection between two computers at my house. Both pc's had Win98 in them and the networking between them was superb.
My system configs are as follows:
p3 733 mhz. 256 ram. (installed WinXP yesterday)
Other pc's specs are:
p200 mhz, 64 RAM. (still running on Win98)

Now the problem rose when i installed XP yesterday. My LAN card spces are Digi-5500TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. Now is it a hardware compatibility issue with XP?? or is that i am missing the procedure..
I also ran the Network Setup Utility provided by Xp CD. didn;t help. Can anyone please help me??

I was able to share files, printer, modem acroos the network before installing XP.

any Help will be appreciated,
Anand.

This is from another post. Essentially it's the same you have to set the user name and password on ur xp box to allow the 98 machine to access it.

when you booted up WinME, it asks you to log in. This username is passed to the NT server to be validated to access its resources. If the username doesnt exist on the NT server, then you will never get acces, it will just always give you that box.

Add the user to the system, and then whatever password you assign to the user should work.

Can you still ping each box? You don't say whether or not it's a connectivity issue or a file sharing issue!

Chris.

Hi TechnicalUSer,
Thanks for ur post. Lemme see, if i have understood your message well..

I create a new user on my XP machine (the same user as that on the Win98 machine) and thngs will work fine??
Do i have to create a user on XP on the WIn98 machine too?

Please help..

Thanks again

Anand.

Connectivity! So, can you ping each IP address or not! If you can't then no amount of user account will help you with this one!

Check to make sure that the card has been detected by XP and installed and check your TCP/IP config. Do some ping tests and let us know what happens!

Hi guys! I am new to this posting stuff... but I wanna help... I have the same card and I faced the same problem when I installed Win2K.

In Win2K, my card wasnt detected at all and my Win98 driver didnt work... they shouldnt work anyway... but I tried since I couldnt locate the website to download the win2k drivers from.

Since WinXP is based entirely on Win2K, it is possible that even WinXP doesnot come with drivers in built for this specific card in question.

Do one thing. Right click on "My Computer" and left click on "Properties" to open the "system properties" window. Now click on the "hardware" tab. Next click on the "device manager" button. If your cards drivers are properly installed, it should be displayed in the device listing under "network adapters". If there is a device named something like network or ethernet device under "others" and it has a yellow or red icon next to it, it means that the device drivers arent installed.

I cant help you woth the solution to this problem if this is the problem because I myself am still searching for the drivers. If you have the drivers disks, try installing the NT 4.0 drivers and also the win98 drivers. Also please send me those drivers at aravindprasad@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bye.

HI
I REALLY NEED HELP.SOME ONE IS CONTROLING MY PC USING THIS PROG AND KNEW EVERY MY PASSWORDS AS HACKER
WHAT I HAVE TO DO MORE THAN USING FIREWALL COZ I DOWNLOAD ONE BUT NO WAY

Hi JACK50,

I have a simple solution to this problem. First thing to do is to download some Anti-virus software such as Norton, or AVX. Second Step is If you are on Windows 2000 or Windows XP then hit control+ALT+Delete, then click on Task Manager. When the Windows Task Manager window comes up click on the Processes tab, once in the Processes tab See what is running and write down the Image Name's of the Processes that are running. Then Either Press WindowsKey+F or click on Start > Find > Files or Folders. Now now Type in the name of one of the Image Name's and hit search, once there is a result right click on the file and goto Scan with Norton AntiVirus. If you find a file that is infected then try and repair it, if that doesnt work then Quarantine the file. Repeat until you have went through all of the Image Name's.

Second Step in Windows 95/98/ME.
You will need to find all the running processes, ***NOTE*** Some Processes can be hidden from the Task Manager. If you need to find all the processes, let me know and I will make you some software free of charge that will dectect all running processes running. Once you get the names of the processes running do a search. Start > Find > Files or Folders. Then scan with with Norton AntiVirus. If you find a file that is infected then try and repair it, if that doesnt work then Quarantine the file. Repeat until you have went through all of the processes.

Third Step for Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP.
Click on Start > Run Type: regedit
Once in the Registry Editor Locate the Following keys.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Once you have located the following keys look for the infected software that you found, and delete the keys.

Also in Windows 98/ME you can Click Start > Run Type: msconfig
Once in the MSConfig Click on the Startup Tab and locate any programs that were infected and uncheck them.

Some Viruses creat a file called winstart.bat if that is the case then the virus could regenerate its self. So delete winstart.bat. Once you have completed these steps restart your computer and you should be fine.

I hope this helps you JACK50. And please let me know if you need anymore help. I am willing to help you or anyone else that needs help.

Take it easy,
