Peek and Poke in Screen 12

I am using Peek and Poke to move text from one position to another on the screen while working in screen mode 12. Everthing works fine except that the color is not retained at the poked location. No matter what color the original text is, it turns to white at the Poked location. How can I use Peek and Poke and retain the original color?

The trouble with using PRINT in screen 12 is that the result will always be the current color on a black background unless you can xor it or use a font routine.
