I'm trying to write some reports on Peachtree data. I've used CR for several years, mostly on Accpac data, which is also btrieve. It was already set up for me though, so I'm kind of lost trying to set this one up myself.

The problem I'm having, is when I open the file.ddf, it only has one table called "file" and one field called "field1".

If I look at "all files" in the folder, I can see .dat files, but if I select one of them I get the same one table one field1.

If I put that "field1" on a report and run it I get the error "IDAPI Error: Capability not supported".

I'm using CR professional, 8.5.0.217, in a terminal window on a Win2000 server (my PC is XP) and there is data on a server locally and at an other location- I get the same problem with both.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thank you

Thanx... I've seen that FAQ, and we are looking at PAWCOM as a possible solution to the problem of specific tables and data not availible in the .ddf file. But for now, I need to get to the data without it.

I'm not using the Peachtree version of Crystal, I'm having trouble opening the .ddf file. I'm able to open other databases in crystal just fine. I dont' need a crystal manual, I need to connect to the database :)

Be careful which version of P-tree you are using and which DDFs you have. When P-tree upgraded to 2003 they changed the DDFs. Also, when you perform the upgrade it did not upgrade the DDFs that were local to the DAT files as previous versions did. The upgrade only put the DDFs in the !_PDG directory. Make sure you are pointing to the correct DDFs.

Also be careful because the default table linking scheme will not always provide the data you think it will. I always have to tweak the DAT file links.

Hope that helps.

Thanx, we're using 2002 right now, but that's good to know for later!

Sometimes the links that crystal makes are pretty bad on the other database I use too- I'll make sure to review what it thinks is right on this too :)

VE,

Click on file, options, dtabsae tab and unclick "auto smart-linking".

Auto smart-linking will automatically link any fields that are the same name, size and data type. This is not neccesarily what you want to do.

If you know your DB structure, you will want to do your own linking manually.

Hey, that's a good idea, I didn't even think that it could be turned off. I don't know how many times I've tried to figure out what "I" was doing wrong where it turned out it was just Crystal being "helpful" ;-) Thanx
