Hi,

Does anyone know how to get a graphical remote console to work via the ERA port on the PE2650? I can do all the text mode stuff (BIOS etc) but as soon as it hits the Windows screen my console client goes blank and the message "Warning: Remote Console Not Available" appears at the bottom.

Any help/ideas appreciated.

Thanks

By default the ERA will work in the Bios, but in order for it to do console redirection in the OS, you must have the RAC software installed, with is part of the Server Administrator package. If you do have this already installed, look for a file call racdun.pbk. Double click on the file enter you area code then click OK and then click on the file again. A box will appear in the left hand corner there should be a button that says "Hang up". If it says "Dial" your PPP port is not properly set up. Without this the console redirection will not work. FYI: when changing from BIOS to Windows GUI you will temporally loose the redirect. This is due to the time it takes to start the services in Windows.
Depending on your OS you would need to do different steps to fix the PPP port configuration. The below URL has a list of Whitepapers that deal with the OpenManage product line, scroll down to April 2002 and look for one called "Establishing a PPP Connection to DRAC III and Configuring the Connection for RAS" This also deals with the ERA both the DRAC III and ERA are both configured the same way. If you are running Windows 2000 and DNS take a look at the following POST on Dell site, there are steps that you will to take to prevent the PPP port from registering itself in DNS.
