PE2 gets stuck on opening

I am using Mac OSX 10.2.4 , I think that it was after an automatic update was carried out that I cannot now open My elements program. It gets stuck on reading preferences after it has loaded the fonts.
I trashed the preferences p list and it hasn't made any difference. HAs anyone any idea what I do next.

I also have to force quit twice before it will close. i.e. I force quit, close the force quit window re-open it then force quit again. then it closes .
A mystery to me I have never had that problem before!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I repaired permissions on my hard drive and this seems to have fixed the problem.
Maybe this will help others too.
