Situation : Dell PE 2500, 6 disks, Perc 3/di Raid controller
3 x 8Gb = first raid 5 set, split in 2 logical drives : C: and D:
3 x 33Gb = second raid 5 set, 1 logical drive : E:
C: contains the OS (Windows 2000 server)
D: contains some data (not important)
E: contains the data
I want to replace the first 3 disks with 3 bigger disks. I will also reinstall the OS from scratch. (Windows 2000 server or 2003 server)
At the same time, I do not want to loose the data from the second Raid 5 set.
I remember having an issue doing this on a NT4 box a long time ago... How does Windows 2000 react to this
I assume the Raid controller will still see the Raid volume on the last 3 disks, and will allow me to build a new Raid volume from the new disks,
then Windows should pick up the first (new Raid) volume, and I guess it will automatically find the old Raid volume as well, and just mount it as a drive under Windows...
Is this true. Has anyone actually tested this ?
thanks

How can I believe in God when just last week I got my tongue caught in the roller of an electric typewriter?
