PE 2450 Processor upgrade

I had a PIII 1GHz slot 1 processor fail. I'm thinking of replacing it with two pIII socket 370 procs using a socket 370 to slot 1 adapters. The 370s are less expensive and available at higher speeds.
Would the BIOS recognize these processors? Would the system support speeds higher than 1GHz?
Bad idea? Am I just asking for trouble by doing this?
