Has anyone come across the problem of the Bullet Fonts in Word 97 changing to Question Marks when converting them to PDF's, using the Adobe PDF Writer..

Any ideas of how to get round this would be appreciated.

Thanks

You need to specify that you wish to embed your fonts when you create the pdf file from Word.

Which version of acrobat are you using? Derren

Hi There,

We use Acrobat Reader 5 & Circulate 1.0 for the Converting to PDF. I tried as you suggested but it still changes them to a ?.

So when you open the pdf in acrobat and go "file>document properties>fonts" all fonts listed are "embedded subset" for the "actual font"? Derren

Hiya,

Nope. eg the Original font says "Symbol" and the Actual Font says "Symbol". But the encoding says "built in" unlike the Arial font which says Windows encoding and nothing for Actual font.

When I saved the Document in word I enabled the option to embed true type fonts, Is it a setting I need to change in the Adobe Circulate App rather than Word?

Thanks for your help

So you are not using the adobe pdfwriter for Word then? What does Circulate do? Try printing using the standard acrobat pdfwriter from word. It is easier to set the font embedding there, I don't think that setting the Word printing preferences will be enough as Circulate may just ignore this anyway. Derren

Sorry, Didn't make myself clear. We do use the PDF Writer to create them.
What i was trying was to firstly save the document in word with the fonts embedded to try and see if this was the problem. But it obviously wasn't!.
I thought that if the fonts were embedded into the document when we used the Adobe PDF Writer to create the PDF they would come out OK. Bit lost at the moment how to solve this..

I've eventually managed to sort this out. I did as you recommended and embedded the fonts. but the only two fonts which I can find which actually produce a Bullet is Lucidia Console or Lucidia Sans Unicode. I had to create a new bullet type in word using these fonts and then use the PDF Writer.

Thanks for you help

Chris
