PDF/PageMaker

Mini Mac running OS9 classic and PageMaker. When I try to make a pdf, I get the following message.
PDF file not created. May be due to a user cancellation or an error in the postscript file.
I cannot use chooser to select virtual printer because I connot figure out how to activate appletalk.
Are these problems related?

System preferences/Network

make something like Built in ethernet - anything that support appletalk - and click Configure.

Click on Appletalk button and click Make Active.
