Hello,

I am just wondering if it is possible to set a field/text in CR XI to be considered as a form field for data entry when I export to pdf?? You know how Adobe acrobat highlights form fields as light blue in a pdf document.

I want to create a PO Inquiry report and automatically export to PDF. I want some fields to be updated by my customers without them printing the document and having to scan it..Just trying to save some trees:)

Any ideas. I presume this is not possible - but in my opnion would be a good option.

I am going to assume that you do not have Adobe Acrobat the full product, or another PDF creation tool, as if you did I would assume you could export your crt report as a pdf, then open it in your PDF program, and add in your form fields.

If you don't have such a package, I don't know how to do this. However I have done something similar in word, I simply insert an empty text box in my CRT report, and when I export it as a word document it leaves a blank field for the user to type into.

Hi John,

Thanks. I have Adobe acrobat pro 7/8. But I want to be able to export to PDF and not manually update the form each time. I was hoping I could handle it directly in CR. Yes Word could also be an option.

Does anyone else have any tips for CR - adding form fields suitable for pdf.

Consider a 3rd-party tool as a solution (for a list of such tools, see
My Visual CUT software allows you to automate the process of exporting a Crystal report to pdf and generating pdf form fields in the target pdf file. If you open the user manual, look for the section: "Adding Form Fields to PDF Files". You basically need to add formulas to the report to act as tags that control the design and content of the form fields.

By the way, if you need to give the user the ability to save the completed pdf form (after they enter values in the form fields), I recommend a free utility called PDF Xchange.

Happy Holidays!
