I created a file in PM 6.5 that is text and some imported graphics. But when I create a PDF, black boxes display on the bottom of some (not all) pages, sometimes over existing text. When the PDF is printed, the black boxes are even larger than they display on the screen, covering nearly 1/3 of the bottom of the pages. I've created the PDF by Distilling Now in PageMaker, and from a post script file through Distiller 4.0 and Distiller 5.0. Nothing helps. I've also copied the information into a new PageMaker file, and the boxes display in the same places in the new file's PDF. I've got to get this posted to my intranet site by tonight! Help!!

How did you import the graphics, and what type of graphics? I recommend that you use TIF for raster graphics, EPS for vector graphics for best results.

There is only one problem free way to place graphics into PM and that is to use File>Place and select the image. Do NOT copy/paste to place images.

Make sure that you do not have a corrupt font that is casuing this problem. You should only have 100 - 150 active fonts in your system. If you have 1000's of fonts as I do, then you need to use a font manager to uninstall all but the 100 fonts that you use regularly. I cannot overstate how many problems are caused by fonts with PM.

When creating the PDF, do not use PM's convert to PDF, it really blows. If you need to, install a PS printer driver and set up as if you have the PS printer on your system (whether you have one or not, it doesn't matter) You select the ps printer and print to file. Then you convert that .ps file to PDF.

In a pinch, has a free utility that works very well. You install it and it acts like a printer, makes excellent PDFs. The only problem I have had it with it substituting a funky, poorly designed TTF font with courier. If you are suing well-constructed fonts, you should have no problem.

hope this helps When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
