Hello,

I never used before images in access. I received a .pdf image logo. Concerning this I have two questions.

1. Can I use a .pdf image as a source ?
2. If not, to what format (.bit, .jpg, .png) do I need to convert this .pdf

I don't think you can use .pdf as a source for an image....never tried it myself.

As far as the format...that depends on a couple factors. jpg is smaller in storage size, since it is compressed, but you also tend to lose a bit of quality. bmp is larger but looks nicer. jpg will load faster and therefore your report/form will load faster...bmp will load slower but probably look a little nicer.

I personally suggest you create both the jpg and the bmp. Try using the jpg first. If it looks bad, try the bmp. Note how long each takes to load as well and make the decision based on look and load time.

Txs Robert,

I read it now, its a nice answer (especially quality versus speed). I will do some tests. I need to find out, are the reports fast loading and is the print (color) quality sufficient when they load fast.

regards.

What do you intend to do with the PDF? If you wish to use the logo on reports, it should be fine. Choose Insert->Object and select Create from File, then choose your PDF file.

The image "logo" is as the width of a A4 page. It should appear on each access report page. I try it first as a pdf. So no conversion should be needed. But later the image shall also be used on webpages (xhtml). Perhaps then a conversion to .jpg of .bmp is required.

This is the first step, but later he want's also on each report an digital (different) foto of the products. And then load time is important.

It seems that you might need Access 2007. According to the write-ups, it handles images better than earlier versions.

my version ms access 2000 is not allowing .pdf as a valid image, .jpg is allowed as image format.

at this moment a conversion to Access 2007 is not allowed.

It is true that PDFs are not a supported graphic format*, but you can use the PDF as an Object, that is, choose an Unbound Object control to hold the PDF or choose Create Object from File, as I mentioned earlier. I tried a quick test with a PDF as a logo on a report, and it seemed ok.

I give it a try. I never worked with Unbound Object control and Create Object from File before.
