pdf attachments stripped away when email sent

I recently set up a colleague of mine on POP3 Yahoo email. It works great except that it strips off the pdf attachment (less than 1mb) leaving the rest of the message intact?

He is with AOL as his ISP and we are unsure who is to blame; Yahoo AOL.

Thoughts appreciated
