PDF and TTF Open type problems

Can anyone explain to me why a font such as Monotype Corsiva that is both TTF and Open type needs to be outlind before exporting to PDF? It has been listed as a potential problem in PDF Preflight. I thought that Open fonts were the new 'You Beaut' solution, so why can't PDF process them normally.

This file has been PostScripted from InDesign 3.02 and then put through Distiller.
