I have Acrobat 5.0 installed on my Windows 2000/MetaFrame XP servers along with IE55 SP2. Until the "11 February 2002 Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer" was installed on these servers I was able to open PDF links/files from the IE55 browser window. After the patch was installed we could not open the files from within the browser window. The 'Open this file from its current location' is greyed out and we are forced to 'Save this file to disk'. This occurs for both administrator and regular user. Because we publish IE55 to our users via Metaframe, along with Acrobat and other business applications, we must have the IE55 security patches installed. I have searched Adobe, Microsoft Technet, Citrix and this site (Tek-Tips) in an effort to find a solution. I have verified that the Acrobat plugin is installed. This behaviour does not occur on my regular Windows 2000 workstations with IE55, Acrobat 5.0 and all Internet Explorer Security patches installed.

Has anyone out there experienced this problem, and if so, have you been able to resolve this issue? Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm actually experiencing the same type of problem with a Windows 98 machine that was recently patched. I am not opening an Adobe file, though. The file is a rich-text document that is created using CGI scripting.

When the dialog box pops up, the Open from Current Location option is greyed out and I can only download the file.

Like yours, this problem began occurring only after I had patched the Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 with the latest security patches. Internet Explorer 6.0 doesn't seem to have the problem, but I have program conflicts with 6.0 that don't allow me to install it.

Like you, I've been researching this everywhere and so far this is the only other mention of the problem I have seen.

Thanks for the reply. We have other systems that require IE55 as their front-end, but I will try installing IE6 on a test box to see if the problem goes away!!
