Hello all
I have a windows98 machine that up until May the hotsync was working fine. The user replaced the cradle to get the static free unit I guess around that time. The user has been uable to sync since. The cradle is connected via the usb port on the docking station that the laptop sits on.I noticed that the hotsync button is missing from the plam desktop software. When I attempt to sync I get an error on the Palm that states palm is unable to connect. The palm is a M505 running on win98.If I need to reinstall will I need to get any other software other then the PALM OS.What can I look at to get this working.Once again cutbacks have me doing things that I have not ever done before.

Try re-installing the software. If the user was using a serial port previously, and now is using a USB connection, the software does not auto detect that change (that I am aware of).

Did the cradle come with any software? You may need to download a new version of hotsync. Try download.com or palm.com.

Good Luck!

Thanks I will try that. From what I was told the new cradle came with no software but who knows.

I doubt the old software will come with the USB driver. you'll probably have to download an update. I know my old palms did not have the USB connection option, but my Clie automatically installed it.

Good Luck!

You shouldn't need to reinstall. The M505 should have come with Palm Desktop version 4.01 (that's the latest).

Try starting the Palm Desktop and then synching.

If that doesn't start Hotsync then try going to 'Start', 'Programs', 'Palm Desktop', and then click on Hotsync Manager.

You should see the blue and red circle arrows in the task tray. Right click on it and check to see that USB is selected.

Try it now.

No real problems when uninstalling. Just make sure you save anything in the Palm directory that you want to keep.
If the Palm directory still exists after uninstalling. Delete it.

When you reinstall, make sure you choose 'USB' and make sure that 'Local Serial' is not selected.
