Hello
Does anyone know if Adobe Photoshop cs2 can make a PCX file? And if so how?
Thank you!

Go to Save As and see if the format is listed on the format menu in the next window.

Its not listed but from what I have read that photoshop can import them, but I need to make one and the format is not listed in the format menu.
Any idea what program can make them?

If you're on a Mac, download and buy Graphic Converter (if you use a Macpro it might be included in your apps folder).

It will import/export anything, including PCX. Graphic Converter is an amazingly ppwerful app that does all sort of neat stuff for 35 bucks and should be on every graphics machine.

You can download a fully functioning trial from

I'm using a PC

So with this converter do I create a gif or jpg and then convert it? Or does photoshop actually create a pcx?

Sorry Im a programmer not a graphic designer and I have been asked to do this

Graphic Converter is Mac only. Sorry, can't help you with a PC app that does this.

For your info, Graphic Converter opens any graphics format and then allows you to save in any other. There are over 200 formats available from the app and it does not require Photoshop, but again, it's Mac only.

Thank you cebebe but when I create a new document I do not have the option to use 24bit it only has 8 and 16. I choose 16 and I do not get the PCX save option. I am using cs2

Ok I figured it out
If I create the document using 8bit I get the option to save as PCX
Thank you for all your help!

When one refers to a 24 bit image, we are actually noting 8 bits per channel for Red, Green, & Blue. (3 channels times 8 bits = 24)
