PCTel HSP 56 micromodem not detected

I just installed RH 9.0. But my modem doesn't work, an old PCTel HSP 56 micromodem with pct789 chipset. I can use it with win98 on my dual boot system when it is set on COM3. However, if I used the network configure utility tool to set hardware device, it didn't show up. So I tried to download some PCTel driver on linux: pctel-0.9.6 and pctel-0.8.6, but those files are not working.

Anyone has experience in this modem on Linux?
